General Conference with kids doesn't always look like everyone sitting quietly on the couch for two hours, and that's okay! What I remember most about general conference was doing puzzles with my mom and vague memories of dressing up hermit crabs…🤷♀️.

The key is to have a few things that will keep their little hands busy so their brains can focus on the words. I can’t tell you the number of times my kids were sitting coloring or doing stickers and suddenly they would repeat something that was said or laugh at a story and I was so excited (and a little surprised) that they were getting something out of it!

Have you had this happen before?

Here are a few ideas that you can use. Put one out at a time and have your backups ready😉.

1. Make a Giant Coloring Station

Cover the kitchen table or spread out on the floor and let everyone color together while they listen.

Kanga Toys' Walk With Jesus Giant Coloring Page is an especially fun choice for Conference weekend. It's big enough for siblings or the whole family to work on together, and its Jesus-centered theme fits naturally with the messages you're hearing.

Put out crayons, colored pencils, or washable markers and leave the coloring page accessible all weekend. Kids can come back to it during each session.

2. Draw What You Hear

Give each child a blank piece of paper and ask them to listen for something they can draw.

Maybe they hear a story about a temple, family, prayer, Jesus, service, or kindness.

At the end of the session, let everyone show what they drew and tell you what they heard.

3. Listen for a Word

Choose a few simple words for kids to listen for during Conference, such as:

Jesus • Love • Family • Temple • Prayer • Service

Whenever they hear one, they can make a tally mark, add a sticker to their paper, or quietly give you a thumbs-up.

4. Build a Conference Snack Tray

Make snacks part of the fun!

Before a session starts, let the kids help put together a simple snack tray with fruit, crackers, cheese, popcorn, or another family favorite.

Getting them involved in the preparation makes it a special Conference tradition.

5. Take a Wiggle Break

Kids aren't designed to sit still for hours at a time.

Between talks or sessions, turn on a song, stretch, go outside for five minutes, or see who can do the silliest dance.

A little movement can make it much easier to come back and listen again.

6. Create a Cozy Listening Spot

Let kids make their own Conference spot with blankets, pillows, stuffed animals, and a few quiet activities.

Having a special place that's only set up for Conference can make the weekend feel different from an ordinary day of watching TV.

Add coloring supplies, books, or another quiet activity they can use while they listen.

7. Ask One Question

You don't need to quiz kids about everything they heard.

Instead, at the end of a session, ask one simple question:

“What is one thing you remember?”

You might hear something thoughtful, something funny, or something you didn't even realize they were listening to.

Those little conversations are part of what makes Conference meaningful.

Make Conference Work for Your Family

Your kids might color through an entire talk. They might need a snack halfway through. Someone will probably get wiggly.

That's okay.

The goal doesn't have to be perfect attention. It's simply creating opportunities for kids to listen, learn, create, and associate General Conference with meaningful time together.
